John 1:1-3; Psalms 8 and 104

What beautiful passages we read today!  Did you see how they connect with our readings on Creation from yesterday?  I love how God weaves His story throughout the entire word of God.

Speaking of the Word, did you feel like John 1:1-3 was a riddle, or do you know who "the Word" is?  I encourage you to compare this passage with Genesis 1:26 and see how they connect and support each other.  There is a very short word in Gen. 1:26 that is a key word--see if you can find it.

When we take this knowledge of who was present at Creation, we see a beautiful image of the Trinity jump off the pages of Scripture in Genesis 1:1-2.

"In the beginning, God (that would be God the Father and God the Son) created the heavens and the earth...and the Spirit of God (that would be the Holy Spirit) was hovering over the waters." (Gen. 1:1-2)  The Three-in-One, from the very beginning.

John 1:1-3 would be an excellent passage for you to take (especially since it is so short) and use the 3-question study method from BSF that I shared on the bottom of your reading plan.  Give it a whirl and see how much you gain from such a small portion of Scripture.

Both Psalm 8 and Psalm 104 are absolutely wonderful psalms that I enjoy using for my time of praising God during my quiet time.  I have a number of psalms I use for this purpose, but these two are some of the best.  The descriptions of God are exquisite!

See how many descriptions of God you can find in each of these psalms.  The next time you are feeling overwhelmed by life, read some of those descriptions until your head begins to tell your heart that it will all be okay.  Descriptions like:
"He wraps Himself in light as with a garment..."
"He makes winds His messengers, flames of fire His servants..."
"He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved..."
"When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth..."
"He who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke..."
"From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger..."
"When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place..."

Peace will flood your soul as you realize that "this God is our God for ever and ever; He will be our guide even to the end." (Ps. 48:14)  Our Lord is the One whom we can trust with everything that concerns us in this life...and the next.  He made it all, and it is all for His glory--especially those who bear His image!
